Value of Shared Success
March 30, 2020When a team has a clear common view of what success is, there is an intuitive trust that develops. We become confident that the decisions individuals make are for the collective good rather than for personal gain and that differences will be worked out in a fair manner.
Never is this more pronounced than in time of conflict and adversity.
The neocortex functions to help us create plans to succeed. When we validate these plans with each other, our neural networks are expanded and reformed to give us broader and more open perspectives of the world. When we have mutual appreciation, we easily connect to one another. More importantly, we are able to look into and curiously observe another person’s thoughts, and sync this to our own knowledge. This is where real understanding takes place.
Amidst all the uncertainties, TRUST has become such a difficult reality to achieve during this crisis we are all in.
We need to breakdown and demonstrate what makes up TRUST (transparency, relationship, understanding, shared success, truth-telling). Practice these behaviors in small ways and observe closely how others respond. By doing so, we can increase our capacity for developing more and more trust over time. A shared view of success helps us accelerate this process of trust-building.
As we are forced to stay at home, define what success looks like in all our human connections, one day at a time.
